This week I'm submitting a quick black and white sketch with gouache for illustration Friday. I have been on the road a lot and away from my studio, so I've only had time for sketches or graphite work. I miss my paints, but I really enjoy pencils.

This little girl was inspired by my oldest daughter.
Darling! Great work.

ReplyDeleteLove that cute tangled up cat! You have a very fun and energetic style! Thanks for the comment on my blog!
ReplyDeleteAs for NYC, you will have a GREAT time! I tried to go to the SCBWI NY office but they only had a PO Box address so I didn't get to go. I was meeting Jannie Ho, who is as spectacular in person as on the web, and another illustrator/author I met at SCBWI conference in LA. I highly recommend emailing Jannie to maybe meet her. She is so nice. My sister's sister-in-law is a literary agent who gave me some agent names in the children's book industry. She also gave me some great advice about submitting. That is about all I did while on my trip to NYC that had to do with children's books. I don't know who to show your portfolio to, maybe contact the SCBWI office in NY to see if they can help you out. If you need some suggestions for restaurants, I'd be happy to help! Hope you have a great trip!
Hihihi...love the cat and the string! So well done!!! Do you know the vet told me one should never let a cat play with string?! Supposedly, the polyester in strings and yarns doesn't digest and can plug them up, to the point of being life threatening. Tsk, tsk...now to tell cats that.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing black and white work..these are great.
ReplyDeleteHope to see you in Nov!
Both are very sweet pictures. I happen to LOVE pencil - I think it's my most comfortable medium. I was only able to get something out in black and white this time as well, so I'm itchin' to play with some paint.
ReplyDeleteoh both of them are so sweet! it's great to work in B&W sometimes isn't it?
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for the wonderful comments, the laughs and all of the supporting words! It all means a lot to me!
