CUSTOM PAINTED CHEST

I just completed one of the projects I volunteered for at my son's school. They are having a silent auction and my job was to put together a class project that involved the children. I decorated a toy chest and had the children’s put their thumbprints on different bugs. It was a lot of fun!

I really enjoyed pyrographing the lines into the wood and then painting the shapes with acrylics. I also applied a protective clear coat.
Here are some pictures of the toy chest and some close-ups of the pond scene:

Custom Painted Toy Chest

These are pictures of what I am currently working on. I am donating this piece for my son's school to be auctioned off at their annual silent auction event. My idea was to paint a scene that would work for both boys and girls.
First I primed the wood and drew the images, then I pyrographed the wood to make the outlines strong and well defined. My next step is to paint the whole thing! I'm really enjoying this, and it's not too different from my usual illustrations. I guess just applied on a different medium.

The small bugs and butterflies will have the children's thumbprints on them with their name.  I'll post a picture when it's all painted and then again when it's all finished.
